Armand P. Mercier Community Center
As part of Lowell Housing Authority’s community redevelopment plan, Meyer & Meyer designed this new community center and satellite police station. The 18,000-square-foot center was created for the residents of North Common Village Development, a high-density housing project that faces the community center across Salem Street. In order to assure a smooth progression of the project, Meyer & Meyer was involved in public hearings and meetings at all levels. In contrast to the urban areas, which border parts of the site, these buildings are residential in character and scale. The design intent was to have the community center serve both as a focal point for the community and to respond to the varied contextual conditions in a non-institutional manner. This award-winning redevelopment project includes a senior center and attached parking.
