Old North Main Street Fire Station Springfield, Massachusetts
Renovations to this historic firehouse in Springfield, Massachusetts involved comprehensive design services to accommodate the offices of the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority as well as design for 10 bus stops and passenger waiting shelters and an adjoining bus maintenance and washing facility. Throughout the transformation, Meyer & Meyer worked closely with town committees and the public. Close attention was paid to potential structural or architectural barriers that might arise. This project received a Preservation Trust Award for historic buildings, largely due to the creative use of retrofitting an elevator into the existing firehose-drying tower.
