Our Lady Help of Christians Church
Since 1994, Meyer & Meyer has maintained an ongoing relationship with the Archdiocese of Boston for the renovation of this historic church in a Boston suburb. The work was executed in several phases to minimize disruption of services and events. The extremely high level of detail in the sanctuary spaces required sensitive detailing and expertise with buildings of this type. The unknown nature of structural features in the church also required thorough investigation. The scope of work for this restoration project involved the installation of a new elevator at the entry foyer to provide ADA-compliant access to the upper levels of the sanctuary. The interior of the lower church required extensive reworking of the interior to provide multi-use function and community rooms. All-new ecclesiastic features such as the Baptismal font, Eucharistic shrine, altar table, lectern, and presides chair were all custom-designed by John Meyer. Many new liturgical changes were implemented, such as bringing the chair to the perineum from the rear left and remaking barrier railings between the congregation and the presiders. Rebuilding a spacing of original pews enabled better access and comfort. Original murals and decorative painting were also discovered and restored. All-new lighting, air conditioning, and sound systems were installed.
